The Three Cups Hotel

Campaigning for preservation of the hotel where J.R.R. Tolkien stayed and gained inspiration for his mythology. Jane Austen, G.K. Chesterton, Tennyson and H.W. Longfellow were also guests. The hotel featured in the film, “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”. Please send articles to me, Andrew Townsend, at or add a comment. Thanks to David Moss for all his work. What could be

The Plough and Harrow Hotel in Birmingham is advertised as steeped in history and has a blue plaque to commemorate the fact that J.R.R. Tolkien stayed there in June 1916.

Just the once? Can you have a plaque for every event? The Three Cups could have lots with Tolkien's name on.

For further information on how Swallow Hotels promote The Plough and Harrow, follow this link. I'm not sure that I would favour a "Tolkien Restaurant" in The Three Cups. The connection between Lyme Regis and the one of the world's most famous authors ought to be well enough known. If not, then a blue plaque for The Three Cups with Tolkien's name on it would be a very good idea.
