Worsley Old Hall - Conservation and Hospitality

Worsley Old Hall in Greater Manchester is an excellent example of an historic building restored and re-opened to provide hospitality at a profit while preserving the interior.

I visited it myself for the first time after refurbishment last week and was delighted with the way the interior has been preserved and enhanced by many paintings and prints showing the history of the building and the area.

The food was delicious, the staff welcoming and the place was full. This is to be expected given that the owners' website describes their business strategy as,

"Each pub has its own style and flavour, though you'll find good cask beers, freshly cooked food, decent and affordable wine and a good shelf of malt whiskies throughout. We run informal places for people who like to meet, eat, drink and talk in a relaxed friendly atmosphere."

Not hard, is it? I'm sure that Tolkien and Chesterton would have approved.
